Calcium chloride is a chloride of the alkaline earth metal calcium. In nature it occurs as dissolved in brines, technically it is a by-product in soda production. Calcium chloride dissolves easily in water and is hygroscopic as an anhydrous substance. Calcium chloride is applied both in solid and liquid form, for instance as a thawing agent or in the food industry.
