Hydrochloric acid is a mineral acid formed during the solution of gaseous hydrogen chloride (HCl) in water. In the industrial process, hydrochloric acid is often obtained as a by-product, e.g. in the chlorination of organic compounds. It is used, among other things, for the production of active ingredient salts, as a reagent, for chemical syntheses and as a cleaning agent.
